To stay active many seniors have turned to yoga. Yoga connects mind and body with a combination of movement and meditative thought. It is a low impact exercise which reduces injuries to our knees and back. But you can get injured, especially if you begin with yoga exercises that are too strenuous. Ease into a routine and then gradually progress when your body is ready.
Yoga is fun to do with friends and you are more apt to stick with it if you have the encouragement and support of others. Check your local recreation or senior center, or health club, and see if they offer yoga classes. If you can’t find a class then find a book or a DVD from your local library or bookstore and practice at home. Some television stations offer programs that teach you the fundamentals of yoga.
Breath deep, relax, and stretch, you’ll be on your way to a healthier life. |
