At some point in one's life there is a sudden realization that there are fewer years left ahead than the number of years already lived.
And the second realization is that there are many things seniors still want to do. I call them life check-off items; things that you always wanted to do but have never had the time to do them.
It may be that certain trip, or to see a major sporting event in person, perhaps even participate in an activity or maybe launch a whole new career but money, work, and family obligations have always sidetracked you from pursuing those life check-off items.
Usually, these life check-off items take much planning to pull off. So start planning now by making a list and picking an item that is the easiest to obtain given your current status. Make sure that if you are married your spouse is actively engaged in this process and take turns helping one another to check-off each other's items. It may take a few years to check-off that first item, but be persistent and pretty soon you will find innovative ways to start checking off you life check-off items.
And if you don't completely succeed at least you tried. It will be far more satisfying to look back and say I tried than knowing you never made the attempt. |
